Trip Details and Highlights

Towns Visited:
Rome and Vatican City

Trip Dates:
September 11 - 15, 2018
Dates are flexible for custom trips

Accommodations:
4 Nights in Rome at a 4**** hotel located in the shadows of ancient monuments just steps from Rome's best sights

Overview:

Rome wasn't built in a day and that's why we spend four days so you have time to appreciate this magnificent city. Whether this is your first trip or not, we'll plan the right trip for you. Prior to your departure, we'll design an itinerary that is geared toward your personal interests.  This way you won't have to see the coliseum if you've "been there done that". For those who are not comfortable walking the Eternal city on their own, you may join your hosts as they show you the ancient ruins, medieval streets, lively piazzas, relaxing cafes and unique shopping.

Prior to the trip rely on us to handle reservations for museums, restaurants, or a personal tour guide.

Suggested Rome Trip Highlights and Experiences:
  • Visit Vatican City in all its grandeur and marvel at Michelangelo's works: his Pieta, the dome, and the Sistine Chapel
  • Walk the ancient cobblestone streets just as Audrey Hepburn did in the romantic movie "Roman Holiday" and throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, walk up the Spanish Steps and put your hand in  the "Mouth of Truth"
  • Admire the architectural eye-candy of the Coliseum, Pantheon and Trajan's Market to appreciate their timeless beauty
  • Walk in the footsteps of Julius Caesar through the conglomeration of ruins, majestic columns, arches and crumbling walls known as the Roman Forum

Your Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1 - Tuesday - September 11, 2018
Arrival Day - Welcome to Roma!

Inclusions: Private Transfer from Airport to Hotel , Accommodations, Welcome Dinner at Local Restaurant

Plan to arrive at the Rome Fiumicino Airport before 11:00am so we can personally meet you at the airport. We will have private transportation from the airport to take you and the others with our group to the hotel. Luggage will be stored if we arrive prior to check-in. We have four days in Rome, there is no need to feel rushed. Everyone is free to enjoy the city at their leisure or join us as we will have a leisurely walk and point out some of the major landmarks and give you the lay of the land.

We will have a welcome dinner including wine at a local restaurant this evening where guests can order from the menu.

Day 2 - Wednesday - September 12, 2018
Suggested: Visit Vatican City
Inclusions: Accommodations with  Breakfast

Today is at everyone's leisure. This doesn't mean you are left stranded. We remain at your disposal to assist you with your plans. We'll make arrangements for anywhere you would like to go today.

First-timers and guests who have not visited the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica may want to go today. Wednesday is the day visitors are able to see Pope Francis and  receive his Papal blessing if he is in Rome.  Private tours can be arranged for anyone that is interested in having a guide take them through the Vatican Museum, St. Peter's Basilica or the Sistine Chapel Be sure and ask the secret to being one of the first to visit the Sistine Chapel when it is virtually empty. PROPER ATTIRE ALERT: In order to enter into St. Peter's and other churches both men and  women  must have their knees covered by wearing long pants or long skirts and have their shoulders covered.

After lunch, our first stop will be Piazza Navona where in the 1st century, athletic games were held in the large stadium. The piazza is stunning with three fabulous  Baroque fountains.  This is a place to sit and enjoy Rome's most famous piazza.  Feel free to wander the nearby winding streets with ancient churches, shops and lively atmosphere.

Day 3 - Thursday - September 13, 2018
Suggested: Spanish Steps, Via Veneto, and the Trevi Fountain
Inclusions: Accommodations with Breakfast

Another day at your leisure in Rome. Today's suggestions: One of the oldest and most stunning buildings is the Pantheon, first built in 27 BC and rebuilt in 125 AD. It is a site to see and is one of the few ancient structures still intact today. From here, stop by a great gelato shop before continuing on to the most luxurious area of Rome, a mecca for glamorous shopping on the famous street Via dei Condotti. This is where you will find the Spanish Steps, the monumental 135 steps, rising above the  Piazza di Spagna. At the base of the steps is the quirky Boat Fountain, representing a leaky old boat that was stranded when the Tiber overflowed. Climb to the top of the stairs for a great view of the city. Another amazing view from the top is from the Pincio Gardens.  For lunch, we have reservations at one of my favorite family-owned restaurants that's nearby. The Via Veneto area is another beautiful area. At Santa Maria della Vittoria is Bernini's sculpture The Ecstasy of St. Teresa of Avila.  Bernini's fabulous Triton Fountain of a sea god sitting on a shell blowing water through a conch is in Piazza Barberini.  The walk along Via Veneto  made famous by international film stars takes you past sidewalk cafes, stunning hotels and the Palazzo Margherita, now the American Embassy. Next we will wind our way towards the Quirinale area with the famous Trevi Fountain. Famous since the 1954 movie Three Coins in a Fountain, the myth is that if you toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain, you'll return to Rome.

Day 4 - Friday - September 14, 2018
