October 14-25, 2017
Tuscany & Florence
$5,300 pp/double occupancy
Itinerary Overview
One of the gems of this travel experience is that everyone is free to do as much or as little as you like and at your own pace in the towns visited. Each season the schedule is adapted to include special events of the season, serendipitous moments or to accommodate inclement weather. We usually depart between 9:00 and 10:00 each day after breakfast. Prior to the trip, participants will be given a list with some of our favorite places to shop and dine in the cities we visit.

  1. Oct. 14, 2017
    Saturday, Arrival day - Greve
INCLUDED IN THE COST: Welcome Gift Wine Tasting with Lunch Welcome Reception Dinner Buffet
Plan to arrive in Florence at the airport no later than 1:00 pm where you will be met by Anne or Dennis. From there we will pick up our rental cars. From there we will have lunch and a wine tasting in Greve in Chianti. While in Greve under the porticoes are plenty of shops selling local specialties. After 3:00 we can settle into our rooms at the villa. That evening we will have welcome reception and dinner buffet at the villa.
  2. Oct. 16, 2017
Monday - San Gimignano and Certaldo
We will visit San Gimignano that dates back to the 10th century and it's centered around two piazzas. Once there were over 70 towers of which 13 remain today. Medieval architecture is abundantly represented and one of its main attractions. Then, we will visit the unspoiled town of Certaldo Alto. This gem of a town has not be ruined by tourists, war or changed over time. Built almost entirely of brick, it is well preserved and offers great photo opportunities.
  3. Oct. 17, 2017
Tuesday - Castellina, Siena and Monteriggioni
After breakfast we will stop by the Etruscan town of Castellina. The buildings are from the 15th century including the ancient fortress that dominates its skyline, the Rocca Comunale. Castellina offers amazing views, nice shopes and my favorite gelato in all of Tuscany. Next, we will visit the Gothic town of Siena, whose ochre-colored buildings and ancient ramparts evoke the city's medieval past. On the way back to the villa we will stop in Monterrigioni.
  4. Oct. 15, 2017
    Sunday - Panzano and Montefioralle
INCLUDED IN THE COST: Breakfast Dinner and Wine
This morning we will visit the small town of Panzano. Sunday morning is market day in Panzano with vendors selling crafts and foods such as honey, olive oil and pecorino cheese. Everyone is on their own for lunch in this charming medieval village. After Panzano, we will visit the town of Montefioralle or enjoy the villa. Tonight we will have wood fired pizza party on the terrace with local Chianti wines.
  5. Oct. 18, 2017
    Wednesday - Montepulciano and Pienza
INCLUDED IN THE COST: Breakfast Wine Tasting and Lunch
After entering the town gates of Montepulciano on Corso Street, you'll pass Renaissance palaces before arriving at the Piazza Grande. The views from the top are simply spectacular. This lovely town is rich in church architecture. One of the best reasons to visit is to trythe wines. Next is the beautiful town of Pienza, famous for pecorino cheese. Pope Pius II transformed his birthplace town into the "Ideal City of Renaissance" and it is worth the drive.
  6. Oct. 19, 2017
Thursday - Impruneta and San Casciano
INCLUDED IN THE COST: Breakfast Cooking Class with Dinner OR Gourmet Dinner in Town
Impruneta is famous throughout the world for terracotta pots. We will visit a small kiln known for making large pots and statues formed by hand from the ground up. The techniques used today are the same as those used during Roman times. Later, we will stop by a family farm that is famous for percorino cheeses and olive oils. We will have lunch overlooking the vineyards (weather permitting). Our cooking class begins in the late afternoon followed by dinner.
  7. Oct. 20, 2017
    Friday - Volpaia and Radda
INCLUDED IN THE COST: Breakfast Wine Tasting Lunch Dinner at the Villa
Today we take another beautiful drive up in the hills to another picture perfect village. The main village of Volpaia is owned by the Stinti family and they turned the entire town into their winery where we will have a wine tasting and a tour of the cellars. After lunch, we will visit the town of Radda. Today is a day of gorgeous countryside, rolling hills and picture perfect towns. This evening we will have our farewell dinner at the villa.

  9. Oct. 22, 2017
    Sunday - Florence
Enjoy a day of total freedom in one of the world's most beautiful cities. We are happy to assist you in making reservations to see museums if needed. For those who have not visited the Galleria dell'Accademia to see Michelangelo's David, it highly recommended and so is the Ufizzi Gallery. You are at your leisure to shop the many stores, visit the churches, or simply sit in one of the many piazzas and watch the people.
  10. Oct. 23, 2017
    Monday - Florence
Many of the popular museums are closed on Mondays, but there is still plenty to do. The Medici Chapels, the Duomo and the Basilica of Santa Croce are both open on Monday's. Inside the Basilica there is the historic leather school where you can watch firsthand the work of its fine craftspeople and purchase one-of-a-kind leather products. You might also consider Dante's House, in the city center or visit the incredible Mercato Centrale.
  11. Oct. 24, 2017
    Tuesday - Florence
A visit to the Oltrarno section of Florence is a nice option for today. The Oltrarno district is known for its artisans who carry on the traditions passed down through the centuries. Wandering its narrow streets you'll find many talented craftsmen just as they have done for centuries in this area. This area has many great restaurants, beautiful churches and is much calmer than the other side of the Arno.
